My name is Rebecca Peterson. I am the mother of one curious little boy named Skyler, a beautiful little girl named Everly and wife to my extraordinarily talented photographer husband, Joel Peterson. I have always been very passionate about women, pregnancy, birth and parenting and this passion has led to me becoming a Birthing From Within mentor, postpartum doula and specialized prenatal & postnatal yoga instructor.
Before creating Embracing the Mother Retreats, and becoming a yoga and birthing class instructor and postpartum doula, I received a Master’s Degree in International Relations while living in Paris, France. My specialization and passion was in Human Rights, specifically pertaining to women and children. For many years, I worked with various nongovernmental organizations and companies in Paris, France, New York and Denver. I have now found my heart really loves working with women and families as they step into what I believe to be the most transformative times in life!
My love of prenatal yoga started as a whisper within me and became a roar as I flowed on my yoga mat as an expectant mother. As I teach it now, I am often reminded of my own journey into motherhood and the questions that arose within me during those nine + months. I am honored to be able to share in the rich conversation about motherhood with expectant and new mothers on and off the yoga mat!
My most recent pregnancy and birth journey was with my daughter Everly, a little girl rockin' an extra 21st chromosome (a.k.a. Down syndrome.) She has inspired me to specialize in working with new parents either expecting a baby with extra needs or after their baby is born, in whatever capacity I can. If this is you, please contact me to find out more information!
I am also a Colorado Native and am happy to have "settled down" here, surrounded by my loving family and doing with I love - teaching!
Our paths often have twists and turns to get us to right now - in this breath. And with each sacred breath we take, we step into who we are and what is being asked of us.
Whether your next breath is on your yoga mat as a student, in your pregnancy as a soon-to-be parent or as you begin your journey with your baby, I look forward to meeting you wherever you are in your path.
